Charles de Vaivre
Born in France, Charles de Vaivre discovered his artistic voice at the age of eight, inspired by the cinematic legacy of his grandfather, a filmmaker and producer. This early exposure to the power of storytelling ignited a lifelong passion for visual narratives. He later studied Design at Strate College, mastering the art of composition and the ability to evoke profound emotion through imagery.
In 2006, Charles transitioned from design to photography, approaching the medium with the precision and intent of a painter. His breakthrough came in 2011 with the publication by TeNeues of New York Rooftop Gardens, a celebrated book that captured the poetic essence of hidden urban sanctuaries, firmly establishing him as a distinctive voice in contemporary photography.
In 2013, Charles relocated to New York City, where he collaborated with architects and designers to create images that showcased and elevated their projects for commercial and marketing purposes. Simultaneously, he developed new photographic series and partnered with a gallery, resulting in exhibitions across the United States and further solidifying his reputation as a distinctive voice in art photography.
A move to Hong Kong in 2018 marked a transformative chapter in his career. Immersed in the city’s kinetic energy, Charles developed an expansive photographic series that resonated deeply with audiences at leading galleries and cultural events, further cementing his reputation as a master of visual storytelling.
Now, Charles is channeling his artistic vision into Ultra Blue, an ambitious personal project that explores the boundaries of stillness and movement, reality and abstraction. Alongside this endeavor, he continues to collaborate on commercial projects with architects and designers, bridging artistic exploration with professional practice.
