HONG KONG 1106
Everything starts with a neighborhood, a town, a country, a culture or a civilization; the first contacts, the curiosity and, of course, the eye!
My profound admiration and attractiveness for the contrast, in particular when people coming from different horizons interact with each other, when ancient dwellings rub shoulders with ultramodern skyscrapers, when the aroma of people mix with the mesmerizing smells of street food, all this inspires me to photograph these moments.
These photographic moment on the Hong Kong territory illustrate clearly what to-morrow will be the patrimony of the life of a society, blinded by inexorable socio-cultural evolution! Consistently moving forward without necessarily looking behind, that’s a great strength too! My fascination for this ultra-dynamic society is tremendous. Thus, the photography allows us to come back to those moments that more or less have been consciously obliterated, i.e. forgotten!
1106. That’s the surface in square kilometers of Hong Kong, that I’m making you discover, like a diamond in the middle of carbon atoms. I have walked over the entirety of the region of Hong Kong, in order to recreate very specific ambiences and to enhance the overlapping symbolism of the past and the present of every site.
The photographic approach was crucial for this project and especially in the use of the media. That’s why I wanted to shoot in black and white, just as one discovers a novel in which the pages are white and the text unfolds in black, in abstract, real and emotional journeys.
Photographs and prints:
Nearly the whole project has been photographed digital, except of some of the pictures.
All the prints are carried out in C-print (Chromogenic Print) on Ilford paper RC Black&White.
